On the evening of January 10, 2107, the Boy Scouts of America Troup 276 out of The American Legion Hall in Lansing, IL came to the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation to complete their technology merit badge. The students were introduced to how 3D imaging works, some of the technology that is being used at CIVS, and how solving real world problems by integrating computer simulations and visualization technology is possible.read more ... On Friday, November 18, 2016, Purdue Northwest University, hosted an event at the Calumet Campus called” Walk into My Future at Purdue Northwest”. to an audience of fifth grade students from the Hobart School System. Approximately 280 middle school students came to the Calumet campus to experience some of the college degrees Purdue University Northwest has to offer.The Center for Innovation for Visualization & Simulation was delighted to be part of the event. The Center for Innovation through Simulation and Visualization (CIVS), proudly hosted over 2-days, the Annual Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium (SMSVC) Meeting at Purdue University Northwest, in Hammond, Indiana. The SMSVC is a steel industry consortium which focuses on the development of simulation and visualization technologies to address major issues faced by the steel industry.read more ... On Friday November 11, 2016, as part of Purdue’s National Distance Learning Week’s events , Purdue Northwest University held an event in Gyte 143, in effort to promote distance learning and digital learning. The event was held live but was broadcasted via WebEx to all the Purdue University campuses.
The Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) was featured as part of the event. CIVS projects that where highlighted included Fall Safety Protection, Appealia, and the FIPSE wind turbine project.

Dr. Chenn Zhou, Director, and John Moreland, Senior Research Computer Scientist, of the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) at Purdue Northwest University, presented projects created and developed by CIVS, including a 3D wind turbine training program. Dr. Chenn Zhou was awarded Best Paper in the Models and Methods Session at the 8th International Conference on Physical and Numerical Simulation of Materials Processing in Seattle, Washington from October 14-17, 2016. Every Friday, the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation holds a seminar for students, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the 3D Immersive Theater (Powers 115). The target audience is CIVS research engineers and student workers, but the seminars are open to any students in the engineering dept. Friday CIVS seminars will take place till the end of the school year. We look forward to seeing new faces at the Friday CIVS Seminars.

On October 12, 2016, Dr. Mueller was given the opportunity to view first hand some of the projects CIVS students have been working on. Over 40 members of Alverno-Compass Company came to the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation on October 6, 2016 to view an updated virtual tour of the renovations recently done at Alverno. CIVS students created a video that was developed into a two High Definition versions: 2D and 3D. A Virtual Reality and a touchscreen demo were also developed for the project.read more ...
