Purdue Northwest uses Accuplacer as its English placement assessment. Most incoming students are not required to take English placement. Admissions may require the test as part of its admission process for applicants who have been out of high school longer than one year and/or do not have ACT or SAT scores to submit as part of their application.
English placement must be completed in the Testing Services Center, Lawshe Hall, Room 118. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome between 8:00 am – 2:00 pm daily. Please remember to bring identification with you to test.
The Accuplacer English placement test is not timed; you work at your own pace. Expect to take multiple choice exams for Reading and Writing. Some students may also need to complete the Essay component for placement. You’ll see your score as soon as you complete testing.
Resources to prepare for the English placement exam are located on the Accuplacer website. There are practice tests and sample questions available to help you prepare, as well as a practice app that can be downloaded to your phone.
If you have additional questions about English placement, please contact the Testing Services Center at 219-989-2504 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
